A form of abbreviation in which the end of a word is left unwritten. Abbreviations by suspension include single-letter abbreviations, like e.g, for exempli gratia. and forms in which almost the whole word is written with only the final letter(s) or syllable left off, as when a final –m or – bus is omitted.
